Photo update

Things have been a little crazy here - Yuri is in California (he drove there this week -- poor thing is resting before starting his new job in San Jose on Monday). We're here, adjusting to our many changes.

To try and have some smiles - we went to the Tweetsie Railroad today. It's an old fashioned amusement park -- lots of cowboys and indians (I guess they haven't read A People's History) and simple rides that are big hits for the toddler set. And....today...was....Bob the Builder Day. I envisioned a day of frolic, where there was no wining, no crying and only cotton candy and fairy tales -- it was pretty good. Yes, we had crying and some wining -- and we skipped the cotton candy -- but we had fun! And we laughed. And we smiled. It was a good day.

Mom and I thought we were at an Obama rally with all the YES WE CAN!'s that were shouted. Before we got to Tweetsie -- I asked Victor who he was going to see today -- Obama was the reply.

They had all sorts of equipment out by the Bob area --- which of course we thought was for kids to check out....well....someone didn't realize that if they park a tractor by a toddler play area, that maybe kids will play on it...and maybe if they didn't want kids climbing on it -- it might be a good idea to park it some place else. Before we got shut down, we did enjoy the machines.

He was pleasently surprised when the play started going up!

This picture so captures Victor -- having hi to the people below -- saying 'Hi! How You Doing?!' to them all. I saw it and I got a little teary. I speaks of hope to me -- and it reminds me that for all the tough times we've been slugging through -- it's going to be ok.

Since my creative well is a little low -- but my extroverted nature still wants to chat -- a prompt is in order.
Here's one that I enjoyed thinking about --
Remember name the first song/artist/album etc that you think of when you see these 10 words.
Country: She thinks my tractor's sexy -- of course I've only heard this song in the grocery store -- but it has some serious ear worm qualities -- I'll be singing it as I try to go to sleep tonight.
Patriotic: Star Spangled Banner -- followed by This Land is Your Land -- I had to sing SSB at my high school graduation -- anyone who was there would let you know it wasn't a good moment to have hearing. I still tear up when I hear that song -- but more out of my own embarrassed self than anything else.
Summer: Summertime -- by Will Smith
Heat: Hot in Here -- Last time I was in Key West that was the song that was on repeat there -- as you walked by nearly every store front "I'm getting so hot...I'm going to take my clothes off" was what you heard.
Fun: The Poopsmith Song -- I love this song. It's always so fun to sing along to -- and I love potty humor. I hope you do too.
Beach: Rockaway Beach -- I heard this song the other day - and it amazed me how cutting edge it was at the time -- and now my toddler likes it.
Surf: The surf music from Pulp Fiction --
Park: Saturday in the Park by Chicago -- I had to sing this song in chorus in high school -- I don't know if I had ever heard it before -- but I hear it all the time now.
Live: In the Name of Love by U2 -- love that song live.
South: Sweet Home Alabama and Carolina on my Mind

Play Freebird!

Victor's first concert (that wasn't in a park) was Dan Zanes & Friends -- and it was terrific! All the kids were dancing (and some shy ones where hanging with their parents too - still having a great time) We were on the floor dancing just a few feet from the band, or running all over the Triad Stadge -- Victor tried to get into the control booth, was interested in the stairs and the chairs that move up & down. It was a blast! Felecia & Jeni & her son came with us (G-Ma Hedy, me & little man) and fun was had by all.

Rugs were cut, booties were shaking and hands were waving. It was such a fun fun night. Victor danced a bunch and spent a lot of time observing the performers. He seemed really interested in the drummers and watched them closely. I would be happy if he wanted to play an instrument -- we'll see if he's interested as time goes on. Yuri wants to get him a drum set -- I think maybe we should wait a little while on that one -- maybe until we move the country at least!

We had a fun Grease themed Saturday -- we didn't really know how much the theme would really fill our whole night.

First we started at the Tate Street Festival. Grease you ask...how does a hippy-dippy street festival related to Grease? Well --- Grease because some people found bathing optional -- leading to grease! We found ourselves feeling old and clean. The first thing we saw when we arrived was a top-less woman hula-hooping. Perhaps it was a way to help keep the holy-rollers from converting people or damning them to hell as had been done in previous years.

We walked down the Jack's Corner -- and had dinner -- keeping with the Grease theme because it was a Greek place -- so we had food from Grease! Aren't we clever?

After that we went to the Triad Pride Men's Chorus Grease-Sing-A-Long --- what fun it was. The prop bag included pom-pom's for cheering during the pep rally, combs so we can comb along with Danny & the boys, pink slips, mechanic rags, toothbrushes during "brush-a-brush-a-brush-a" and bubble for "Beautyschool Drop Out". The costumes were great - there was a bunch of T-Birds, Pink Ladies and a great Beautyschool Dropout in the silver outfit & curlers. When we go next year - Felecia & I will watch the movie before so we can get good ideas for costumes because as the movie went along we had more and more ideas for cool costumes.

As the final part of our grease night -- we topped it off with Hot Chocolate with whipped creme (a bit greasy ya' know) -- of course it was a stretch - we had planned on ice cream but the pouring rain made us change plans. We had also ideas of buttered rum, french fries and other fried delights -- next year we'll have to plan out the theme even more! Victor didn't come this year since it was in the evening.
Maybe he'll be ready in the coming years! There were lots of kids that didn't get all the jokes like with the Muppet Show or Simpson's.
